Caves São João is a century-old company. It produces and commercializes Bairrada and Dão wines, sparkling wines and spirits withan important selection of old vintages. Of the wines, the main brands are Frei João, Porta dos Cavaleiros, Quinta do Poço do Loboand Caves São João.

In Bairrada, the vineyard is called Quinta do Poço do Lobo, with around 40 hectares. The grapes from this vineyard are used to makewines and sparkling wines of the Quinta do Poço do Lobo brand.

For the sparkling wines, the brands include: Quinta do Poço do Lobo, São João Reserva, São João Rosé and Luiz Costa – Special Edition. In the case of the spirits, they are all aged for more than 20 years in French oak barrels, are vinic and marc brandies, which include brands like Caves São João Velhíssima 1966, Caves São João Vínica Velha and Caves São João Bagaceira Velha.

On this excursion you will visit the famous and unique wine cellars of Caves João in Bairrada (40 mins from Coimbra), for wine tasting and a delightful three course lunch.

We will leave the faculty of Pharmacy just after the closing ceremony and travel by coach to the wines cellars of Caves São João.

The Conference Gala dinner on the evening of the 2nd of September will take place at the Tertúlia d´Eventos restaurant (Tertúlia d'Eventos ) which is situated just over the river Mondego and near both the Portugal dos Pequenitos theme park (worth a visit) and the famous Quinta das Lagrimas hotel (the grounds are fantastic and worth a visit). This will consist of a welcome cocktail, followed by a three-course buffet dinner with a selection of delicious Portuguese and regional dishes, accompanied by a selection of excellent wines (or beers if you prefer). This will be followed by music and dancing till 1 am (so you can let your hair down after a very busy day of chemistry).
